“Tarnie is a miracle worker. I had back pain for a month and I could barely walk and absolutely
could not sit. Within two sessions I could walk, sit and work again. It is truly a miracle.”

Meet Tarnie

I was born in northern New South Wales, Australia, a town that was home for generations of my family. As a child, I grew up on a sheep-grazing property with up to 6,000 sheep. It was both an idyllic and challenging upbringing. I lived in a household with a lot of emotional turmoil, and it manifested in being an extremely shy and reserved, yet model-perfect child.

My first encounter with the “outside” world was as an exchange student for Rotary to Kingfisher, Oklahoma, USA. I then went onto study Physiotherapy at Sydney University specializing in Sports Medicine, and was eventually blessed to work with state, national, and Olympic-level athletes (and be a physiotherapist at the 2000 Olympic Games). I also toured with Rugby Union football teams, including a U.S. and European tour.

Since then, I have made my home in Rome, London, Sydney and currently Los Angeles.

In 1988, I set up my own practice, Mosman Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine Physiotherapy (Sydney, Australia), and built it to a very successful business. Working on the physical body was truly wonderful; however, I became aware of the deeper levels of healing that emerged and became more curious about the wisdom of the body to heal itself.

This enquiry led me to Los Angeles to earn my Master’s in Psychology and onto my somatic movement training. Within 10 minutes of being in my first authentic movement class, I felt inside “I have been looking for this my whole life” and I knew I was “home.”

Movement has become part of my life, and it has been through authentic movement that I have learned how to deeply inhabit myself, to trust and listen deeply to my body, and to respect and receive the information that is held there. This work has informed the transformational work I use to guide my clients to their own embodiment and healing and birthed the BodyFreedom™ Method.

Today, I live in Altadena, California (Pasadena–Los Angeles area) with my “rocket scientist” (in Astrophysics) husband, Ulf, and my lovely cat, Milli. I have two stepchildren, David and Annika, whom I enjoy immensely and who currently reside overseas.

My greatest passion is living life to the fullest in the most authentic and loving way possible and helping others do the same. My essence is love and joy; I am curious, I like to explore possibilities, I enquire, I listen, I am receptive, and I live with gratitude and appreciation. I like to guide my clients to live life this way, too. Would you like to join me?

What is The BodyFreedom Method?

It is an eight-step process that evolved from my own evolution of healing and that of my years of working with clients as a Sports Medicine Physiotherapist, and then as a Transformation Healing Practitioner.

The BodyFreedom™ Method is a body-mind approach that encompasses the psychological, the psyche and the spiritual connection between the states of the body and the states of the mind. This healing method includes the effects of thoughts, feelings and beliefs on the whole system.

What I have found is that complete healing can only happen when both body and mind are including in the healing process. The BodyFreedom™ Method is an experiential method that opens the dialogue to body wisdom and intelligence for a deeper, and very often lasting healing of pain and anxiety at the core. The pain can be both physical and emotional and it works on all levels. It is a transformational process that takes one from pain to empowerment as a new system starts to operate from within. It is a “changing of the guard,” and allows other parts of oneself to awaken so that the self holding the pain and beliefs and judgments does not dominate. It is based on a somatic approach to therapy, a “bottoms up” approach that encompasses attention to the body and to the feelings and sensations. The  BodyFreedom™ approach is an integrative therapy on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels, where the techniques incorporated give voice to what the body is trying to communicate through pain and anxiety. These symptoms are the language of the body saying “Listen to me,” and by connecting to the internal “voices” of the body, one can access information not gleaned in other forms of healing.

The “8-Step BodyFreedom Process”

  1. Breathe your Body
  2. Feel what’s Present Inside
  3. Move your Body Gently
  4. Find your Safe Place
  5. Explore Your Pain
  6. Receive and Surrender to Stillness
  7. Awaken the Power in Your Lower Belly
  8. Integration
The benefits of this approach are many and include, but are not limited to:

• Resolution of or a decrease of pain, anxiety and body symptoms • Stronger body connection to yourself and to self-assurance • Significantly improved coping mechanisms • A shift in deep-seated patterns that transform past negative experiences • A more regulated nervous system • reduced or no discomfort • Decrease of stress and strain held in the body • Improved sleeping with feeling of being more restful and less fatigued • A greater sense of mastery that instills a sense of self confidence, reliance and hope • Moving from a life of pain, discomfort and worry to empowerment and a sense of freedom and joy

“I have worked with Tarnie over six months and I have made more progress in these months than
I have in years. I have seen amazing transformations in my work, my relationships and myself.
I have actually done things in my business I have been toying with, putting off or avoiding for years. Personally, as I have become more in tune with my body.
I feel how I imagined I could feel - more powerful, confident, calm and patient."
